Sonya J. Abbott, who was 84 years old and resided in Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at the Monmouth Nursing Home at 12:45 AM on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Born on April 4, 1940, in Monmouth, Sonya was the beloved daughter of George M. and Mary Cokel Higham. She grew up in Monmouth, attended the Immaculate Conception School, and graduated from Monmouth High School. Sonya married John W. Abbott, Sr. on May 9, 1958, at the Immaculate Conception Church, where she was a devoted member. Her husband John preceded her in death on October 9, 2024. Throughout her life, Sonya worked at Monmouth Pottery and held various other local positions, including at Woolworth’s in Monmouth.
