About
Richard Jeffery “Rick” Akers, aged 53, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Ephraim McDowell – James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg. Rick was born on May 2, 1971, in Morehead, KY, the beloved son of Patty (Kegley) Akers and the late Sammy Akers. He was a dedicated employee at Summit Polymer, where he worked in production. Rick cherished his peaceful life on the farm, enjoying quiet moments with his longtime partner, Debby Carter.
From an early age, Rick had a vibrant spirit; he was the youngest participant to ride a sheep at a rodeo at just four years old. By nine, he ventured into deep-sea fishing. His adventurous spirit led him to join the National Trail Ride Association, and he even co-owned the family’s zoo, Bluegrass Animal Land. Rick also dedicated two years to FEMA, aiding in disaster relief efforts. His passion for equines was profound, and he found great joy in leading Youth Blacksmith Programs, sharing his skills with the younger generation.
