About
Peggy Sue Alderman entered the world on October 24, 1947, born to James and Effie Womack. As the fourth child in a family of five, her early years were filled with household duties, from cleaning to preparing meals.
During her sophomore year in high school, Peggy faced a significant family challenge when her mother suffered a stroke. This event led her to miss numerous school days as she prioritized her mother’s care, managing her studies late into the night.
In her final year of high school, Peggy met Bobby Gene Alderman. They married on April 2, 1966, and spent much of their early married life in Massachusetts while Bobby served in the Air Force. During this time, Peggy devoted herself fully to supporting her husband and strengthening their partnership.
The couple welcomed their son, Robert David Alderman, on October 29, 1973. Following his diagnosis with Cerebral Palsy, Peggy dedicated herself to his care and advocacy, ensuring he could achieve his utmost potential. Her relentless advocacy not only transformed David’s life but also led to significant educational and legal reforms benefiting all disabled children with the capability to learn. Her tireless efforts are reflected in the protections for disabled individuals that stand today.
