Melvin Theodore Feathers, aged 91, from Hancock, MA, sadly departed this life on February 1, 2025 due to a sudden and unidentified illness. Born on January 17, 1934 in Berlin, New York, he was the cherished son of Douglas and Sarah (Sally) (Cronkwright) Feathers. A 1954 graduate of Berlin Central High School, Melvin honored his country by serving in the National Guard for three years before transitioning to active duty in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.

Melvin was renowned for his versatility in various skills, yet he excelled exceptionally as a mechanic. His journey in mechanics began at the tender age of 12 under the tutelage of his father, a master mechanic. His expertise expanded during his military service, where he managed military vehicles and pursued advanced training. He spent numerous years at Seyffer Ford in Pittsfield, frequently attending training sessions offered by Ford Motor Co. In 1977, Melvin ventured into a partnership at Green Valley Equipment in Hancock, focusing on farm equipment repairs. He later established Mel’s Repair Shop, where he specialized in repairing automobiles, lawn machinery, and small engines. Even in his 80s, Melvin was a sought-after advisor for repair guidance, testament to his enduring skill and dedication.
