Mary T. Acquaviva, aged 100, of Butler, sadly departed this life on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Newhaven Court at Clearview. Born on March 10, 1924, in Argentine, Pennsylvania, she was the cherished daughter of George and Sarah Gregory Glaviano, Sicilian immigrants who made their home in America.
Mary was raised in Butler’s lively South Side community alongside her siblings—Russell, Sam, Joe, Ann, and Celie. She received her early education at St. Michael Catholic School before graduating from Butler High School. Pursuing her passion for beauty and style, Mary graduated from Butler Beauty School in 1970, where she obtained her cosmetology certification.
In a loving union on November 13, 1940, Mary married Joseph Acquaviva. They spent a remarkable 70 years together on the South Side, where they nurtured a close-knit family that grew to include their sons, Joseph and Richard. As the years passed, Mary’s family expanded to encompass five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, creating a legacy filled with love and cherished memories.
