Mary Lou Angelotti, nee Masten, passed away in Midland on March 11, 2025.

Born on Valentine’s Day, 1929, in Almena, Michigan, Mary Lou was the daughter of Ralph and Olga Masten and grew up on her family’s farm near Paw Paw. Her early life was marked by active involvement in 4-H and various school events. At Paw Paw High School, she excelled academically and as a senior, she took on the role of yearbook editor. She graduated as valedictorian in 1946. Continuing her trailblazing journey, Mary Lou was the first female to pursue an engineering degree at Western Michigan College, now known as Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, earning her Bachelor’s in chemical engineering in 1950. She furthered her education at Michigan State University, where she obtained a Master’s in chemistry in 1952.
