About

Mary Blanche Adler (née Lesnick) of Pittsfield passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the remarkable age of 102, leaving behind a century’s worth of memories and legacies.

Born on August 6, 1922, in the vibrant Polish-American enclave of Adams, Mary was the daughter of Louis and Veronica (Kuza) Lesnick. She grew up attending local schools and contributed to her family’s livelihood from a young age. As a young girl, Mary worked in a textile mill where she was responsible for replacing spools on weaving looms. The hardships of the Great Depression compelled her to leave her education in the eighth grade to assist at home, helping to care for her younger siblings while her parents worked to support the family. Throughout World War II, Mary, like many women of her time, played a crucial role on the home front by working at the Sprague Mill in North Adams, supporting the war effort and maintaining the stability of her community.
