Julian “Tip” Ray Abernathy III, aged 77, of Fort Smith, passed away on February 15, 2025, and has gone to join the Lord. He was born on May 22, 1947, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Julian Ray Abernathy Jr. and Juanita “Skip” France (Angher) Abernathy, and grew up surrounded by a loving family.
Tip completed his secondary education and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree. In 1975, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with distinction and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, he embarked on a career in civil service, dedicating many years to administrative work.
A man of deep faith, Tip was a devout Christian. He was an enthusiastic singer and an active participant in the Fort Smith Chorale, expressing his love for music. Reading was another of his cherished pastimes, indulging in books whenever he could.
Tip is mourned by the community and his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Skip Abernathy, and his daughter, Blythe Abernathy.
