Joseph R. Aiello, aged 94, of Farrell, departed this life on the afternoon of Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Saint John XXIII Home in Hermitage. Joseph was born on July 9, 1930, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, and was a cherished sibling among six children, including his twin brother, Carmen J., who preceded him in death in 2013. He was the son of Francesco and Caterina (Scalzo) Aiello, who migrated from Calabria, Italy, along with his eldest brother, Nicola. Joseph spent his entire life in the Shenango Valley and completed his education at Farrell High School in 1948. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Navy, received his training at Naval Station Great Lakes, and served aboard the USS Kenneth D. Bailey on a voyage that included a mission to the Arctic Circle. Upon returning to civilian life, Joseph embarked on a career at the former Sharon Steel’s track department, working alongside his father.
