NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI – Captain John Douglas Andrews, age 88, died following a brief illness on March 5, 2025, at Kent Hospital. He was born on September 21, 1936, in Evanston, Illinois, and was the sole offspring of the late Albro Andrews and Jeanne Fulcher Andrews.

As the founder of SafeSea, a marine assistance towing and salvage company, Captain Andrews held a U.S. Merchant Marine Master’s License and retired from maritime service about a decade ago. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Sally Query Andrews, his son, Captain Peter J. Andrews, his daughter-in-law, Dr. Susan Andrews, and two grandchildren, Sarah Andrews Kops and William Wyler Andrews. Captain Andrews cherished his lifelong partnership with Sally, the many years spent growing his business alongside his son, and the pride he took in his grandchildren’s achievements as adults.
