Bradenton, Florida – James “Jim” Frederick Hodgkinson, cherished as a husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 15, 2025. He was 86. Born on July 11, 1938, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Milton “Mike” and Dorothy Hodgkinson, Jim’s life was marked by a profound commitment to his community and loved ones.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Drake University, where he was an active member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. His career spanned 39 years with Walgreens, where he excelled as both a pharmacist and store manager, earning numerous accolades for his professional integrity and dedication to colleagues and patrons.
Throughout his life, Jim was vigorously involved in various activities, from youth sports and Yo-Yo contests to adult softball, handball, and racquetball. He relished the great outdoors, frequently found boating, fishing, and particularly camping. Jim was also a self-taught pianist, often playing tunes by ear and enjoyed constructing and fixing things. His adventurous spirit led him to travel extensively, often opting for the path less taken, and he took pleasure in amusement parks, riding roller coasters into his late 70s. Known for his clever wit and wisdom, Jim’s life was a tapestry of experiences that shaped his rich knowledge.
