O’Fallon, Illinois – We mourn the loss of Francis “Babe” Esmon, a cherished member of the O’Fallon community, who passed away on January 25, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on January 23, 1934, in East St. Louis, Illinois, Babe departed peacefully at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
A decorated veteran of the United States Army, Babe returned to Illinois after his service, embracing a life filled with joy and active engagement. An enthusiastic golfer, he was celebrated for achieving six holes-in-one and was a regular on the greens, playing up to five times a week. Beyond the fairways, Babe enjoyed bowling and was a formidable pinochle player among his circle of friends, often claiming victory in their friendly games. Above all, his devotion to his family stood paramount, particularly cherishing moments spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Babe was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary (O’Gara) Esmon, and his brother, William Esmon. He leaves behind his beloved partner of 40 years, Virginia Parker; his children, Donnie (Kim Cooley) Cox, Erin (Dave) DeCarlo, Sean (Mary) Esmon, Mike Esmon, Lisa (Bob) Denton, and Linda Parker; his grandchildren, Danielle (Brandon) Castle, Jeffery DuBois, Tyler Esmon, Delani DeCarlo, Ashley (Lonnie) Parker, Alex Denton, Amber Denton, and Justin Parker; and his great-grandchildren, Josie, Ruby Castle, Alexia, Aubrey, and Mason Hall.
Babe’s legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire and influence our community and his family, whom he adored immensely.
