Curtis Strickland was born to Berry Strickland and Elizabeth (Clifford) King Strickland on March 8, 1946, both of whom have passed away. He was one of six siblings—Roosevelt, Rosa Pearl, Ellis, Martha Jane, and Carl—all of whom have also passed on before him. Curtis passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

From a young age, Curtis was a devout member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and received his education within the Liberty school district. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Throughout his military career, Curtis was honored with several commendations, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, an Army Fierce Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, an Oak Leaf Cluster, four Overseas Service Bars, sixty Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medals With Service, a Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, an Overseas Service Ribbon With Numeral 2, seven Army Good Conduct Medals, a First Class Badge (grenade), and a Marksman Badge (rifle).

After his retirement from the military, Curtis dedicated another 21 years to serving the state of Georgia.
